Affordable Housing
Designing affordable houses for low income households encouraging good mental well-being and a sense of community through a humane quality standard of living
This is a project demonstrating affordable housing design. The main aim was to allow the housing to blend within the surrounding environment thus giving the residents a sense of place and belonging.
The design advocates for affordability in terms of materials and construction technology and sustainable practices. By using cosntruction materials close to the site and reusing native vegetation and boulders, the design promotes recyclability and affordability.
Furthermore, the inclusion of communal and multi-functional spaces promotes community development and bonding. It also promotes economic activities to be carried out promoting income generation among the tenants of the building.
With the incorporation of multipurpose furniture, tenants are able to use a space more efficiently promoting more functions and accommodating more users as time moves on.
